Illusions and disillusions

Sorry I have had no time at all for the last two months...college, work, projects which never finished, and looming assignments. So I snatched a little bit of free time that I do have.
I dont know if anyone will understand this entry...because I am not sure if I will phrase it right.
Hopes, dreams, aspirations. Beautiful words which sound wonderful in literary works. Lets face it- these words are put down in real life. When you have high hopes, you dream. You dream and dream of better things, dreams which become rosy and again I will use the world beautiful-and then sometimes reality comes back and gives you a whack in the face, and you are just surrounded by fragments.
This is a cynics point of view. I personally believe, that if you hope, you dream, and you make something out of it. Contrary to what people say....there are happy endings. The concept of happy endings appears far-fetched and unrealistic to many, but I believe that they exist. It's out there somewhere. I have always preferred to look at the rosiness of life, and that you can always make your way out of a sticky situation.
I have been proved wrong many times too. Life has a darker thorny side too, and you get to face that side too. In my dark moments I have also believed that it is wrong to hope, to expect, to wish for anything. Even if its five minutes, I have also believed that life is cold, brutal and nothing can right can come out of it.
But I bounce back again.
I know, things seem bad, awful and terrible sometimes. People who you thought you could easily depend on, trust more than anything else can turn around and hurt you. The world isn't filled with people like that...there are those who will do anything to make you smile.
This entry is mixed and jumbled up. I am not even sure the reader understood what I am trying to get across!!

  1. Ok.. this is definitely taken from our conversations :D
Well.. I'm going to be frank and honest here... I beg to differ entirely.

Let me begin by pointing out the key difference between a dream and an ambition. A dream is like the horizon.. you can always see it... but no matter how fast or how much you run after it... it never gets any closer. Dreams are simply meant to be chased. An ambition on the other hand is something which can be placed in the palm of your hands... its something you "aim" for.. not "long" for... and most importantly, you know what needs to be done in order to obtain it.
This world unfortunately is filled with more dreamers than "ambitioners" (please allow me to coin my own vocabulary). Everyone dreams of green pastures, rainbows and sunshine. Unfortunately... only those who fight for it can obtain it. Every human being is born equal. Its what we do with our lives that grant us the luxuries we desire. Survival of the fittest. If you choose to simply sleep your life away in the comforts of someone elses toil and labour.. it is going to come back on you sooner or later.
You mentioned that cynincs (like me :P) say this world is cruel... I disagree. I say the world is completely just. That is precisely why those who strive for something... succeed and those who are not worthy... fail.
I have a saying... Winners aren't those who deserve to win... winners are those who snatch victory away from those who deserve it.
This is precisely how the world that we live in functions. Its every man for himself.
Now, I'm not saying this means that no one can be happy.. ofcourse they can... happiness is every human's birthright. But it isn't something thats going to be served in a silver platter... we have to earn it!
Let me give you a scenario... a 17 year old boy writes his AIEEE exam... he has no idea what he's doing... he has not studied a word... why? Because he believes this is not his time... he believes he is fit for bigger things...etc etc. He is a dreamer. Now if I asked you if that boy will be a winner in the future... you would say yes. Now my question to you is... what about the 2 other 17 year olds seated behind and in front of him in the examination hall.. who have been working their backs off for more than a year. Don't they deserve to be winners? If god exists... won't he choose to reward those 2 instead of the dreamer? And if god doesn't care.. who will?
You're right.. happy endings do exist.. but only for those who want it more than others...
and as for the "others"... history wipes them off its pages...

  2. okay...I really like your definitions of dreams and ambitions.
Anyway- a person who fails, it doesn't mean he isn't worthy. If he fights back and tries harder and succeeds, it is he who is the ultimate winner. Thats because he is fighting to prove himself...he isn't a failure. Everyone's got their own worth and value, its how they bring it out is what matters. The world is just too. Chances exist, it is people's duty to take those chances and make good use of it. There's always a chance. And I agree with you-happiness is a birthright. I have a divided belief here- people can be happy with whatever they do, sometimes it is not necessary that the way to happiness has to be earned.. At the same time, if someone is stuck in a situation, he will have to find his way out and then maybe he can be happy. for this arguement, I have a divided opinion...
and as for the AIEEE scenario, if the other two 17 year olds have studied they will make it. I know it sounds cliche, but it pays off in the end. And as for the dreamer...I have no solution to that..
Yes happy endings exist for those who want it more than others. But again, the others wont be wiped off. It isn't necessary that they will be. They will find theirs too, eventually.

  3. I'm gonna go point by point here:
    1) You said failing does not make you unworthy... you're half right. It does NOT make you unworthy.. but it definitely DOES make you less worthy than the guy ahead of you. Yes, different people have different definitions of happiness... however, if 2 ppl aim at 1 target, only 1 hits it. The other then tries pretending he's happy with second place. Maybe he is... but 9/10 says he would've been WAYYYY happier with 1st place. According to your theory... even a person without any dreams or ambitions can be a happy person.. but the question is.. does he deserve it? Yes, I did mention its his birthright... but not all rights are deserving... think about it.

    2) You contradicted yourself when you said everyone has their own time to shine... because u later specifically said that its all about making use of the chances that come your way. In the latter half you and I have an agreement.. but then you DID contradict yourself :P
Every person DOES indeed have his or her unique traits.. but if he/she does not exploit his/her chances... it all counts for nothing.. this is another definition of a winner. History bears witness to that. For example, in the 90s.. Eminem had a famous rap battle with an underground rapper called La Peace. On that day and that time... eminem proved to be better even though it was 1 of the closest battles in the history of rap. Today even a 9 year old knows who eminem is... but even the most avid listeners of rap wouldn't recognise La Peace. Today, La Peace just has enough to support his family... is he happy.. NO! OUTCOME: winner-> eminem... loser-> La Peace

    3) You're wrong when you say happiness does not have to be earned. The only way that is possible is if you do NOT set any kind of goals for yourself in life.. because if you DO set a goal.. be rest assured there are a million people just like you with the same goal in mind.. only 1 gets it.. SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST!

    4) As for the AIEEE case.. you have no solution.. why? Because there is none. That 17 year old brought that upon himself.. and if the world is just... he needs to be punished. The other 2 sweat it out on books.. he on the other hand will have 2 sweat it out only on his tears... because he does NOT deserve forgiveness. If you have mercy on him... you're only being UNJUST to the guy who succeeded in his place. Has he committed a crime by fighting harder? Does he NOT deserve credit for his labour?

In a nutshell: STOP MOURNING FOR THE DEAD AND START APPLAUDING THOSE ALIVE... TO THE VICTOR GOES THE SPOILS.

Lakshana, no matter how civilised we may become... its still a jungle out there.. and its survival of the fittest.
